A man has been jailed for his role in an alleged £10m scheme in the country's health care sector after it emerged he offered £15m for the sale of Viagra and other erectile dysfunction pills in his shop.
The scheme was uncovered last month by a local pharmacy. After being warned by the MHRA and other regulators it was the biggest ever in the UK and was a "significant blow" to his health.
The man, who was aged 57, was arrested on March 13 at Boots Health and was taken into custody on March 15 and released after 10 days of an arrest warrant.
The MHRA said it was investigating whether the scheme had been "committed or contributing to health problems".
Mr Martin was charged with one count of selling the "impotence drug" in a "purchased drug store", and one count of introducing the drugs in a scheme to sell and market the drug without a prescription.
The MHRA said that in the past two months had revealed more than 500 websites had been shut down.
It was the latest of the MHRA's crackdowns on the market since its start in the UK in June 2015.
Officials said it was "inappropriate" for the MHRA to warn of the dangers.
The MHRA's chief executive, Emma Walmsley, said: "It is a disturbing development for an industry that has been making headlines for over 20 years now, and that could be one of the biggest public health risks of its kind, in part because of the millions of men and their families who rely on public services to care for themselves and their children.
The MHRA is also concerned about the increasing number of young people living with a mental health condition and the impact that the drugs could have on their families.
The agency is continuing to work closely with other MHRA agencies to identify and address these risks.
"We are in discussions with the Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) to provide more information and make this available sooner. We are also working with the Department of Health and Social Care to investigate further."
Last week the MHRA announced it was investigating more than 100 websites that were shut down or had stopped selling the drugs.

The MHRA said it had found a "large volume" of websites selling the drugs but had not identified them.
